Lara Croft, the iconic protagonist of the Tomb Raider franchise, is recognised as a symbol of feminine power in a predominantly male-dominated world of gaming. While scholarly attention has focused on her global impact, this chapter explores her reception in India. By analysing the evolving portrayal of Lara, this chapter examines how she has embodied empowerment for women in an entertainment domain perceived as male-centric. Drawing on personal experiences as a female gamer in India, the author reflects on how Lara’s image influenced my identity and sense of agency. The chapter will engage with the ways Lara’s character has challenged conventional notions of femininity in India and how her presence offers Indians gamers, an alternative vision of female strength and autonomy. Through phenomenological experiences of Indian gamers, this piece explores how Lara has shaped their perspectives and skills, while addressing how her reception intersects with issues of gender representation and empowerment.
