Abstract
The Indian tourism industry plays a pivotal role in the nation’s GDP and provides millions of employment opportunities, making it integral to the economy. However, the sector faces a critical challenge as it rapidly evolves with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), creating a demand for future-proof professionals with the necessary skills. A significant skills gap exists due to the rapid development of AI technologies, with the demand for skilled professionals outpacing the available talent pool. AI is transforming the travel and hospitality sectors by automating tasks and enabling personalized experiences, but it also highlights the skills gap between the existing workforce and the needs of AI-powered operations. To address these challenges, the tourism and hospitality sectors must adopt practical reskilling strategies to equip their workforce for the AI era. A comprehensive survey of industry companies reveals that proactive upskilling, redeployment, and strategic recruitment are key to bridging the skills gap. A pragmatic approach is essential to prepare tourism professionals to adapt and thrive in the face of AI and rapid technological advancements.
