Abstract
In this chapter, the author examines the integration of spatio-temporal literacy into critical servant leadership within educational contexts, emphasizing its significance for addressing issues of social justice, equity, and care. The chapter highlights the underexplored potential of spatio-temporal literacy, which has traditionally been considered most often in isolation as spatial and temporal literacies, to enhance the praxis of critical servant leaders. Through the concepts of moral presence (a form of spatial literacy) and moral perseverance (a type of temporal literacy), the chapter argues that educational leaders can better read the complex social and cultural texts of schooling and learning. These moral literacies empower leaders to interpret and address systemic asymmetries, fostering inclusive and empathetic learning environments. The chapter further explores how the balance between immediate moral presence and long-term moral perseverance cultivates a liminal third space, enabling leaders to engage in ethical, authentic, and spiritually grounded leadership. Ultimately, this chapter situates spatio-temporal literacy as a critical tool for critical educational leaders striving to create equitable and transformative school communities in times of socio-cultural, political, and racial precarity.
