Abstract
Using intimate scholarship research, we expand on previous work on healthy and successful interdisciplinary collaboration between a mathematician and a mathematics education researcher. We make the case for the importance of humanizing interdisciplinary collaboration, which for us meant leveraging our nonacademic selves to build a working relationship in which it was easier to overcome conflict created by differences in our academic cultures. Be forewarned, this chapter contains accounts of personal tragedy.
