Positive behavior supports and strategies are essential for teachers as these supports create the management framework for the classroom. Research suggests that when positive behavior supports and strategies are implemented, students show greater improvement in academics and behaviors. Perhaps most compelling for teachers is when they can directly relate to examples from other teachers in real classrooms. This provides a context that helps them to understand how these systems might work in their own classrooms. In this chapter, we discuss positive behavior supports and strategies that the authors utilized within their classrooms. An overview of these supports is provided along with a section on the importance of selecting appropriate function-based strategies. Finally, strategies for monitoring fidelity of implementation and student progress are introduced.
