This research paper examines the pivotal role of digital payment systems within the tourism sector, exploring their transition from traditional methods to advanced technological solutions. The study employs a structured literature review methodology to analyze innovations such as mobile payments, blockchain and AI-based systems, identifying their benefits and challenges. The findings of the study identified mobile payments, blockchain technology and biometric authentication as key innovations that enhance transaction security and operational efficiency in tourism. However, challenges such as regulatory discrepancies, cybersecurity risks and limited digital infrastructure hinder their widespread adoption. Future research should explore the global applicability of digital payment systems, interdisciplinary approaches for improving adoption and the role of blockchain in supporting sustainable tourism.
