This study explores the strategies implemented by one of the prominent software development companies in Sri Lanka to ensure business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. It adopts a qualitative methodology with a case study approach. Interviews were incorporated as the prominent method of data collection. This research adopts a theoretical framework to illustrate the business continuity strategies adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The strategies identified in preparation for the crisis included forming a crisis-handling team, spotting and classifying foreseen risks, and incorporating previous experiences as learning points. The incorporation of ISO standards facilitated the development of strategies to respond to the crisis. Opportunities in the software development industry were utilized for business stabilization, operating costs were optimized, and unique strategies were implemented to manage human resources. Routine checklists were prepared, continuous assessments of competitors and the workforce were performed, and risk profiles and ratings were updated to suit the pandemic. The findings from this study could be incorporated by practising managers when devising strategies to ensure business continuity amid a crisis.
