11: Moving Forward

This chapter outlines how Yosso’s Community Cultural Wealth model is used as a framework for some centers and how operations of centers can align with a student’s cultural capital or can help further develop a students’ cultural wealth. It includes reflections from a Director of an Intercultural Resource Center at a Hispanic-Serving Institutions and their experiences with Multicultural centers. This chapter proceeds to dive deeper into topics like leveraging influence and power from designations, envisioning the future of identity and cultural centers, and the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic. The authors include their personal experiences and recommendations for cultural and identity center staff on how to navigate hardships. This chapter concludes with a snapshot of the current political climate for cultural and identity centers in the United States and considerations for the future.
