Chapter 13: Decolonising Business and Entrepreneurship Curricula for Sustainable Education: Integrating Lessons From the Global South

The curriculum used in educational contexts has profound ties to sustainability since it shapes learners’ understanding of social, economic, legal, and environmental issues, affecting future decision-making (Gaio et al., 2024; Woods et al., 2022). A decolonised curriculum that challenges dominant ideologies and promotes diverse ways of thinking aligns closely with the goals of sustainable education, empowering learners to become global citizens who contribute to a more equitable and sustainable world (Jack et al., 2024). The Global South, home to many developing and low-income countries with colonial histories or perceptions of the Global North’s cultural superiority, particularly suffers from colonised and biased educational content (Anapey, 2024; Darley & Luethge, 2019). This situation perpetuates inequalities and undermines the principles of sustainable education.
