Abstract
This chapter examines the influence of social media on civic engagement and public service communication among Spanish-speaking communities. It explores both the potential and pitfalls of digital platforms in expanding access to civic participation and public information. Highlighting disparities in digital literacy, language accessibility, and representation, the chapter critically assesses how Spanish-speaking communities engage with public institutions online. It also presents strategies for more inclusive and effective social media practices in public administration. Key concepts such as misinformation, disinformation, fake news, pseudo-media, and social media are explicated.
