Implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has become a hot topic in recent years. The emergence of innovative technologies has an apparent impact on teaching and learning methods. By focusing on personalization, efficiency and engagement, educational institutions can better meet the needs of diverse learners while preparing them for a technologically advanced future. This chapter first outlines the meaning of AI in education and its applications, such as personalized learning, virtual tutors, content creation and task automation. It then analyzes its benefits and impacts on students’ and teachers’ roles, competencies and effects on future jobs. It also investigates the relationship between the implementation of AI in education and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, the author puts forward the challenges that AI applications may face in the educational systems in general and specifically concerning developing countries and investigates their readiness, shedding light on the Egyptian educational system. In conclusion, the chapter highlights the fact that teachers cannot be replaced by AI technologies, as we still need the humanization aspect of education. The integration of AI into education would transform learning experiences dramatically, but at the same time, AI in education requires careful implementation to address challenges related to equity, privacy and the evolving role of teachers.
