Chapter 10: Gig Economy and Artificial Intelligence-related Subreddits: The Gig Workers Perspective

Recently, in the past few years, a rise in the gig economy demand has changed the employment equation, introducing new amenities for income growth. Gig workers enjoy flexible and short-term tasks provided by digital platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, or Freelancer (Kässi & Lehdonvirta, 2018; Schroeder et al., 2021).Various disciplines have started research bringing noticeable attention toward these platforms, portraying different working style and changing the old traditional way of working in industry (Duggan et al., 2020). These platforms run on algorithms to execute all traditional managerial tasks, entirely changing the equation of relationship between organizations and workers (Duggan et al., 2020; Meijerink & Keegan, 2019).
