Abstract
This chapter considers linkages between active learning and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) (Gay, 2018). Active learning is highlighted as a curricular stance focused on cultivating active, curious, and empowered learners equipped to navigate the modern world’s complexities. We discuss CRT and deliberate over how it might relate to active learning methods. We invite readers to apply active learning strategies with CRT to support students’ learning and address their holistic needs within culturally diverse school settings. We further encourage educational research exploring classroom engagement that overlaps active learning with CRT to serve as needed contributions to theory and practice in this fertile area.
