The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into military systems has introduced transformative capabilities, along with significant security challenges. This chapter explores the critical role of Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS) in securing military IoT networks. It examines both traditional and advanced IDPS techniques, including signature-based, anomaly-based, and hybrid approaches, as well as their deployment strategies – such as host-based, network-based, and distributed architectures. Furthermore, it analyzes emerging technologies like machine learning (ML), blockchain, and software-defined networking (SDN), highlighting their potential to enhance the effectiveness of IDPS. The chapter also discusses key challenges and future research directions, underscoring the need for scalable, adaptive, and resilient IDPS solutions to protect military IoT networks from evolving cyber threats.
