Our objective in this project is to provide evidence that a distinct field has emerged to foster and promote corporate engagement in measuring, disclosing, and reducing emissions. This field is composed primarily of international NGOs, institutional investor coalitions, standards-setting bodies, and one intergovernmental organization.

To uncover these organizations and their interconnections, we employed a snowball sampling method. This approach was guided by references found on various websites and in secondary literature. The websites examined describe the activities, boards of directors, funders, partners, and clients of the respective organizations.

We collected detailed data on all individuals and organizations represented on the boards of directors of these organizations, as well as information about their funders, partners, and mission statements. This comprehensive dataset forms the foundation for our analysis of the field’s structure and dynamics. Data collection was done in 2023.
