Immersion refers to an individual’s deep, engrossing state in an activity such as walking, painting, or therapy where they tune out everything that surrounds them as if they had achieved a singular focus. It’s a tool that can gain access to a different state or feeling, thus allowing a displaced perspective which is critical in tackling challenges. It has a wide breadth of applications ranging from storytelling, gaming, and art to more advanced treatment and therapy-centred applications. There are, after all, various categories of immersion: natural, cultural, and digital which function and serve crucial purposes. Natural immersion, as in going outdoors, enhances self-awareness while also improving cognitive and connectedness which has a holistic impact on mental well-being (Yassin, 2022). Cultural immersion is highly sought in this day and age since it provides a rich understanding of global interconnectedness and is a key step in transforming a world into an inclusive society (Onosu, 2021). Digital immersion, more commonly known as virtual reality (VR), has applications in social interaction, education, and social work as well as entertainment. It’s highly impressive how technology shapes the way we understand the pattern of relationships, learning, and recovery (Imagineerium, 2023). Immersive experiences provide a wide range of psychological benefits, such as better emotional well-being, cognition, empathy, creativity, social connection, and self-awareness. Immersion therapy builds confidence and stress management skills through safe, realistic, or peaceful experiences. In general, immersion promotes holistic development and emotional growth, making it a powerful tool for enhancing personal and societal well-being.
