In the post-pandemic era, employee happiness has emerged as a strategic metric with significant implications for organisational performance and sustainability. While traditional well-being programmes and self-report surveys have attempted to address workforce satisfaction, they often fall short in objectivity, scale, and real-time responsiveness. This chapter explores the evolution of workplace happiness measurement by analysing psychological theories, empirical studies, AI-driven tools, and global benchmarking models. Integrating frameworks like Seligman’s positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement (PERMA) model and OECD’s WISE Centre initiatives, the discussion highlights core well-being dimensions and the relevance of customised key performance indicators (KPIs) across industries. Technological advancements – including sentiment analysis, facial recognition, predictive analytics, and real-time dashboards – now enable a comprehensive and dynamic understanding of employee happiness. Moreover, ethical concerns around artificial intelligence (AI) usage, such as data privacy and algorithmic bias, are critically addressed. Case studies from organisations like Google, Salesforce, and national programmes in the UAE illustrate the practical application of happiness analytics. The chapter concludes by advocating for circular happiness models that link individual, organisational, and environmental well-being, proposing happiness as not merely an HR concern but a vital input in strategic decision-making and sustainable growth.
