Abstract
This chapter provides the introduction to a volume of school-based and theoretical approaches from Australia, the United States of America, and Wales that respond to the evolving landscape of adolescent health and well-being. Together, the chapters in this volume highlight the complex interplay between health, well-being, and educational outcomes, and emphasise the need for holistic, school-based interventions for this age-group. Drawing on research and current practice, each chapter explores one or more key themes including mental health, social emotional learning, school belonging, and teacher well-being. Collectively, they underscore the importance of inclusive environments, strategic partnerships, and responsive programmes tailored to diverse student needs. Within the chapters, innovative tools and approaches for assessing and enhancing students’ sense of belonging and emotional regulation are also introduced. By framing well-being as being foundational to young adolescents’ academic engagement and life success, this volume presents an exploration of evidence-informed strategies that support both students and teachers in fostering resilient, connected, and thriving school communities.
