Abstract
This chapter examines the use of problem-based learning (PBL) as an instructional strategy for integrating nutrition concepts within kinesiology education, highlighting its value as a student-centered framework that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and evidence-based application. Drawing from current research and classroom practice, it presents case-based and client-based learning activities that immerse students in realistic, multidisciplinary problems and encourage self-directed learning. Because nutrition and physical activity are foundational to health promotion and chronic disease prevention, kinesiology students benefit from gaining essential nutrition knowledge that aligns with their future roles. The chapter outlines core nutrition topics appropriate for kinesiology curricula (e.g., diet quality, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, key principles of sports nutrition) while reinforcing the importance of professional scope of practice. Collectively, these strategies demonstrate how nutrition-focused PBL enhances core competencies and prepares students to support health, wellness, and long-term behavior change through informed and evidence-based practice.
