This chapter traces the development of problem-based learning (PBL) within sports medicine and examines why the field is particularly well suited to its use. Sports medicine relies on an interdisciplinary, team-based approach and professionals must integrate knowledge of injury management and performance enhancement, making it a natural context for PBL. The chapter reviews contemporary applications of PBL in sports-medicine education and summarizes student outcomes reported in the literature. Although the body of research is still limited, existing studies show positive effects on self-confidence, motivation, critical thinking, teamwork, and interest in the subject matter. This chapter includes three detailed examples that illustrate how PBL can be embedded into sports-medicine coursework. Each case includes guidance on design, delivery, assessment, and evaluation, as well as suggested adaptations for different class sizes and levels of student experience.
