Women’s Financial Literacy: A Systematic Review, Bibliometric Insights and TCCM Framework

The key objective of this review is to assess and quantify the extant literature on women’s financial literacy systematically. It highlights the publication trend, author profile, sources and affiliations. It also identifies a theoretical structure and overview that can be informative for shaping future research agenda and policy action to enhance women’s financial literacy and their inclusion. The present study has reviewed the 112 articles published in peer-reviewed Scopus-indexed journals between 2002 and 2024. The Theory, Context, Characteristics and Methodology framework is used to analyze the literature. The review results highlight a gender gap in financial literacy, reinforcing the complexity in analyzing women’s financial literacy and its connection with their economic and social issues, which are deeply rooted in diverse cultural practices. The research makes an important contribution to women’s financial literacy research and can serve as a useful resource for a wide range of stakeholders, including financial advisors, policymakers and the government.
