“The world is moving from interconnected to interdependent. Companies are evolving into the town centers of the future and are becoming the platform for driving social changes. You're not safe if your neighbor is not safe. No business will flourish if those around them are not flourishing,” says Ravi Kumar, President of Infosys. He believes businesses everywhere have a responsibility to contribute more directly to the vibrancy and success of the communities they serve. Based in New York, Ravi's responsibilities are global. In his 20 years at Infosys, he has seen how digital has made the world more intertwined, the speed at which skills change has also increased, and COVID-19 further accelerated this shift. But many people are behind in these skills, so the company is investing in reskilling and upskilling centers to help people gain the skills needed to succeed in today's technological world and, he believes, it is the right thing to do for society. We are wired to solve problems and with digital tools our ability to do so will be a diminishing virtue since machines will increasingly take on that task. Ravi sees the real opportunity as helping people develop into world-class problem finders, and that means cultivating a person's learnability (the ability to quickly gain understanding and insight).
