Chapter 5: Benefits, Challenges, and the Road Ahead

We hope you enjoyed the explanation and exploration of PIDA – a new approach to performance indicator development!

In this chapter, we first discuss potential benefits and challenges in the development of performance indicators through the application of PIDA. Our experience and findings drawn from the original underpinning study will also be used to illustrate these outcomes and address the practical challenges that may be experienced in pursuing the PIDA approach. The aim is to provide a balanced and pragmatic view of PIDA implementation, with a hope to stimulate reflective learning by readers regarding the benefits and challenges that they may face in applying PIDA in their own contexts. The chapter then closes by briefly reinforcing the key messages or aspects of the preceding chapters – but not the level of guiding detail provided in those. As an adjunct to the key messages, we also thought it useful to develop and offer some (hopefully) thought provoking questions to our readers to stimulate their reflection on their current approaches to performance indicator development and consequently too, the value and the challenges associated with PIDA. At the end of this chapter, we offer some concluding remarks on this book.
