This book was grounded in the awareness that the literature has overlooked many issues concerning how professionals react and behave in the face of threats to their identity, prestige, and image.

Indeed, the literature has so far dedicated much attention to the reasons behind the crisis of the professional identity occurring at organizational and contextual levels, leaving unanswered many questions on what happens at the individual level.

Furthermore the literature has excessively focused on contexts that are much more stable in terms of threats to the accounting profession (e.g., Anglo-Saxon countries, Komori, 2015), leaving overlooked those contexts where job insecurity and instability may threaten professional identity and image.
