In this chapter, I present descriptive statistics on many more of the questions on the NRJV survey. I will also present some correlational relationships in this chapter, and I will offer qualified inferences in Chapter 6.

I begin with Questions Q1 and Q2. Question Q1 asks about the date of termination of the RJV. Knowing the date that the RJV was first published in the Federal Register and the date of termination allows me to calculate the duration of the venture. I briefly discussed the duration of the RJV in the previous chapter with reference to the additional time needed if, under a counterfactual situation, the lead firm was to pursue the research project on its own. The mean duration time was just over 2 years, or precisely 25.2 months. The range was 0.75–6.25 years or 9–75 months. See Table 5.1 for the distribution of duration times by years. As expected, nearly 44% of the RJVs lasted between 1 and 2 years.
