You cannot talk about leadership and the culture of leadership without considering young people and how those leadership practices are passed along to them. There are many informal and formal ways in which communities prepare their young people for leadership and for stewarding the future of the community. However, at the root of many approaches are some assumptions about youth. Those assumptions may miss who they are and what they are capable of, not to mention the restrictions and realities of their lives as we previously discussed. This intersectional experience of young people is worth exploring and requires attention to this nuance when talking about serving this group.
