The UW College of Agricultural & Life Sciences (CALS) focuses its internationalization efforts based on the distinct needs of academics and students throughout the College and on those of partners and international scholars. The Office of Academic Affairs oversees academics, with a particular focus on students’ needs in navigating requirements and opportunities in CALS. All CALS undergraduate students must meet the international studies requirement which is intended to deepen students’ knowledge and understanding of international issues; develop openness, awareness, and respect toward other cultures; and prepare students to address global challenges as engaged employees and active citizens. The CALS Study Abroad unit—located within Academic Affairs—offers a variety of international experiences specially designed to fulfill CALS student academic needs. On the faculty side, the CALS Global office supports and fosters faculty, staff, and graduate student involvement in international research and outreach/extension in ways that contribute to the UN SDGs. This chapter discusses how the separation of support for different audiences and needs—but with intentional collaboration—can continue to create synergies and enhance the overall international efforts within the College.
