This paper provides the first detailed analysis of venture capital firm monitoring activities in India, a major emerging market in Asia. The behavior of foreign and domestic venture capital firms is compared in terms of the range of monitoring and other services provided by venture capitalists together with issues concerning the identification and nature of resolution of performance problems in clients. Personal interviews were conducted with executives in 31 venture capital firms in India (84% response rate).
