There are so many options for reflection, it may be challenging for participants to know where to begin with a personal reflective practice. These guidelines can help guide effective reflection.

Utilizing a reflection model, such as the “What? So what? Now what?” model can push the discussion from recapping experiences to applying a critical lens and synthesizing experiences and course materials (Ash & Clayton, 2004). Although this model may seem simple, through an iterative process of asking questions and considering responses, participants can engage in deeper learning.

These questions form the basis for many reflection models and provide a grounding for debriefing questions.
