In this chapter we share the activities of the National Latina/ o Leadership Project. In order to develop a research-based overview of Latina/o school leaders a study focusing on school principals and assistant principals in public schools has been developed by NLLP. The initial discussions in developing this study revolved around building a portrait of a Latina/o leader: What would be some commonalities among Latinas/os serving as school principals around the country? The first step encompassed the design of a national survey based on the examination of the existing literature developed by scholars in different geographical areas, as shared in previous chapters. Here, we share the insights from the survey design, and preliminary results, followed by more information about the context of schools and students they serve in the next chapter.
