School leaders in the United States have complex jobs that require them to navigate multiple roles in their schools, districts, and communities. For some leaders, like the Latina/ o school principals in the NLLP, their cultural/racial identity in a presumed “acultural” system becomes an added dimension of their leadership. Given the growth in the Latina/ o school-age population, books like this one reflect the need to recognize the value and contributions of Latina/ o school leaders. This book attempted to fill a void in the research and provide a snapshot of Latina/ o leaders, their schools, and the issues they face. The NLLP findings further evidenced the need for the continued development of a Latina/ o leadership framework. More specifically, we asked, “What are the distinctive ways that Latina/ os build their leadership?” and “Are there specific ways that they practice leadership that is different from other leaders?” These are the types of questions that must be addressed in the agenda of the future.
