As an educational technology student, one of your learning objectives is to consider the learning design issues of an online role-play simulation, also referred to as a Web-based electronic simulation (e-Sim). The following Health Sciences Case Study illustrates how an online learning management system (LMS)—Blackboard, Moodle, Vista, Desire2Learn—can be used to deliver a role play within education. The methodology is constructivist, experiential, and authentic.
In Table 4.1, the LMS design framework is provided to allow you to consider some of the educational technology aspects of the online role-play simulation. As you read through the simulation, keep the following in mind: How can the online role-play simulation be improved? How can Web 2.0 tools be used?
