Early in my work as a doctoral student, I took a course on writing for publication with others who were teachers and taking doctoral courses at the same time. We were required to submit two manuscripts to journals for possible publication. There was no doubt that the thought of writing an article was intimidating. From my point of view there was also an element of egoism inherent in the notion. What do I possibly think I know that I feel I must share with others? What do I have to say that has not already been said before? What can I possibly add to the field? For many novices these are understandable and expected reactions to a suggestion that they write for publication. The purpose of this chapter is twofold. First, I will offer practical suggestions about how to find ideas to develop into a manuscript. Second, I will describe the submission process as an opportunity for growth.
