After reading these book, it might be tempting to fall into a fatalist attitude. What difference does it make, anyway? Is there any point in trying to get it right if so many people want to get it wrong intentionally? Is there a point in evaluating policies seriously if some political entrepreneurs expressly and proudly flout any outcomes that are not to their liking? Is there a point in a plea for better data about hidden populations, such as sex workers, in a time when statistical agencies struggle to keep their regular data collection programmes afloat? Well, of course, there is.
