Abstract
Chapter 5 explores the intersection of decoloniality and its convergence and divergence with artificial intelligence (AI). Decoloniality refers to efforts to dismantle the lingering effects of colonialism on societies, including its impact on knowledge systems, cultural norms, power structures, and identities. Meanwhile, AI is a technological tool created within specific historical, cultural, and economic contexts, often shaped by Western-centric paradigms. Decoloniality converges with AI as a tool for the possible empowerment of Indigenous knowledge, data practices, and critical dialogue on systems and structures shaping the world. Decoloniality diverges from AI, where its systemic biases are built into colonial histories rooted in global power structure and epistemic injustice.
