Abstract
Can home mean different things to different people? The answer is yes. For some, it is the house where they grew up, a place filled with memories and familiar surroundings. For others, it might be a local café or restaurant where the sights, sounds, tastes and smells create a sense of comfort and routine as natural as the sun’s rising and setting. Home is not always a physical space; it can be a feeling of belonging and connection tied to the people around us. It might be found in a supportive community, shared laughter with friends over tea or coffee or deep conversations with loved ones.
Home also exists in the intangible, like the vacations that bring joy and the cherished memories that linger long after the trip ends. It is not bound by one location or definition – it is anywhere or anything that becomes a part of who you are, shaping your identity and grounding your sense of self. The meaning of home, however, is not universal. For some, it is a place of safety and belonging. For others, especially those experiencing homelessness or displacement, it is a longing for stability, connection and acceptance. Regardless of circumstance, the need for belonging and a sense of ‘home’ is a fundamental human experience. This chapter will wrap up by explaining how the goals of this book have been met, the main contributions to knowledge and suggestions for future studies.
