2: What Is a Techno-Society and What Is Inclusive Technology?

In this chapter, we will explore the reliance of technology across society and discuss the nature of inclusivity and inclusive technology, followed by a discussion and overview of key relevant issues that have enabled us to formulate a working definition of a techno-society. We will identify key characteristics that are applicable for a general approach and a straightforward way to understand the complexity of integration of technology. We hope here, following on from our discussion in Chapter 1 of key terminology, to continue to de-mystify the technology landscape.

We have already discussed in Chapter 1 the extent of our reliance on technology in our everyday life. We deal with technology in all aspects of our lives, from the mass roll-out of online retail and banking to healthcare, socialising, transport systems and education.
