The United Nations articulated 17 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at improving the quality of life for all humans by 2023 (Population and Sustainable Development Goals, 2025). Sustainable Development Goal 4 speaks to quality education. Based on the four-tiered system of education in the Caribbean, quality higher education can only be achieved when there is emphasis at the early childhood, primary and secondary levels. A country's higher education sector can be considered a test case of the overall strength of the entire sector. Where there are weaknesses at the lower levels, these are likely to result in limited access to and enrolment in higher education and vice versa. According to Artyukhov et al., (2024), there is a relationship between Sustainable Development Goal 4, academic integrity, AI and higher education. Following is a discussion of higher education provision in the Anglophone Caribbean, which provides the context in which GenAI use and academic integrity intersect.
