Chapter 6 is concerned with specific pedagogical methodologies for teaching world languages. It begins by exploring a number of different historical and contemporary approaches to the teaching of world languages, and includes a discussion of the unique characteristics of each of the specific world language teaching methodologies presented. It explores the common characteristic shared by the different world language teaching methodologies, and considers the strengths and weaknesses of each of the different world language teaching methodologies that are presented in the chapter. Finally, it examines the ways and means by which useful aspects of different world language teaching methodologies can be combined in an eclectic manner to promote student learning in the world language context.
