Abstract
This chapter explores the nature of reflective practice in the world language classroom, especially in terms of reflection-for-practice, reflection-on-practice, and reflection-in-practice. It offers a discussion of how reflective practice can assist world language teachers improve their effectiveness in the classroom. Next, it examines the nature and purposes of critical pedagogy, both in general and in the specific context of world language education, and considers the potential positive outcomes from implementing critical pedagogy in the world language classroom. Finally, it also examines the limitations and barriers to implementing critical pedagogy in the world language classroom.
