Chapter Summary
The authors explain the close relationship between societies and economies. Economic transitions and their effects are explained, with particular focus on the transition to a knowledge economy. The authors dispel five long-standing myths about a knowledge economy. Knowledge capital is defined, and its peculiar properties and behavior are discussed. The authors explain how knowledge moments and mobilities are critical in a knowledge society and economy. Urry’s (2010) knowledge mobility models are discussed.
