Design thinking (DT) has emerged as a transformative approach to innovation, permeating various industries and sectors. The article attempts to comprehensively review the existing body of knowledge on DT. It also propels it forward by introducing a conceptual framework and guiding future research efforts.
It beckons those vested in innovation and problem-solving to embrace DT as a vital instrument for navigating the challenges of the contemporary world. This article presents the results of a comprehensive systematic literature review that scrutinised 109 articles on DT. Employing a combination of bibliometric and content analysis, we dissect the evolving landscape of DT, offering a holistic view of its multifaceted dimensions.
The findings of this study not only synthesize the existing body of knowledge but also unveil intriguing insights. By identifying clusters of research gaps and trends within the literature, we offer cluster-based directions for future research, aiming to stimulate fresh perspectives and avenues for exploration. We propose a novel conceptual framework that encapsulates the core elements and processes of DT, shedding light on its underlying mechanisms.
This synthesis of DT literature offers valuable insights for decision-makers seeking to foster innovation, improve problem-solving processes and enhance customer-centric approaches.
