The advent of SMD components will have an enormous influence on the future design of electronics systems. It is evident already that increasing numbers of present‐day surface‐mounted devices are being used for new circuit development. This paper seeks to demonstrate the problems and the potential of an aspect of this trend, the testing of circuit boards constructed for SMD technology.
