Remodelling of the PCIF

Keywords: PCIF, Organizational restructuring

The recent press release highlighted the changes at the PCIF with Brian Haken standing down as executive director but retaining a holding position as a consultant to the Federation for political matters and other important discussions such as possible working partnerships with other associations for the good of the industry. Brian will offer 2-3 days per week in this role and has emphasised that he will be readily available for guidance and advice on a continuing basis.

The board also approved the promotion of Richard Martin to the post of director. Richard has been a stalwart member of the PCIF staff for a number of years and will join forces with Frank Coultard (technical director) to jointly lead the PCIF into the new millennium. The other staff, Claire Yarrow, Claire Griffiths and Simon Marsh, remain unchanged. This team provides an ideal combination for continuity and innovation.

The Federation and the industry have a busy forward programme, which includes several new initiatives.

The PCIF is launching a series of events in different locations around the country entitled "PCB and EMS industry days" with highly informative agendas covering market statistics and drivers, an environmental update, PCIF information, technology report and a comprehensive review of the latest training and accreditation initiative. These free-of-charge events are aimed at members and non-members in the PCB and EMS industry and could provide a new format for future activities if they prove popular.

The ADE (Association of Printed Circuit Board Design Engineers) is fortunate to have gained a new chairman in Martin Cotton of Viasystems. The ADE has recently added new chapters, providing comprehensive representation in Scotland, the North East, North West and the Midlands.
