Circatex factory in Laygate, South Shields plans to cut 100 jobs

(The Journal/Trinity Mirror) Bosses at a Tyneside telecommunications company are making almost 100 workers redundant following a fall in sales.

Up to 99 staff from the Circatex factory in Laygate, South Shields, are expected to go after a down-turn in the market.

The former Viasystems plant was saved from administrative receivership in December last year by a management buy-out. A statement from Circatex said that the company had met all its targets for winning new customers but industry sales had fallen.

Chief Executive officer Charles Brooks said the decision to cut staff was"unavoidable but bitterly disappointing". Staff and unions are in talks to find out exactly how many jobs will have to go at the plant.
