User interface (UI) development is a complex process that involves the cooperation and input from both the developer and the user population. It is also an iterative process that requires continuous feedback and possibly peer review. Usability is a primary concern for user interface development, and there are several methods that can be used to test the efficacy of UIs in the digital library context. UI design is critical for the effective presentation and manipulation of digital data in virtually every context of the digital library.
