Purpose

In part one of this article, the project plan aspects related to purpose, goals, and objectives as well as scope and risk assessment were explored. In this second part, the aim is to investigate the second two aspects: project products and deliverables and assumptions and constraints that will affect the project.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology of this article is based on a review of the literature as well as best practice in the field.

Findings

Project products and deliverables must be accurately defined and described to ensure a successful project plan. Additionally, an often overlooked aspect of project management is defining the assumptions and constraints (both internal and external) that will affect the environment of the project implementation.

Originality/value

Project managers who follow the recommendations and practices outlined in this article will help ensure the ultimate success of their project plans.
