Addresses the options for organizing safety functions within a corporate context and considers their safety and other advantages and disadvantages. This is a matter of balancing incommensurate advantages and disadvantages to achieve an approximately optimum organization. Reviews the historical background briefly. Considers corporate responsibilities as well as how these are to be allocated within the corporation. Examines aspects of design and operation, and line management responsibilities are considered in relation to those of safety committees and of audit and review.
