This report from the US Forest Service found that some 44.2 million acres(over 11 percent) of private forest across the coterminous US could experience substantial increases in housing density by 2030. The implications of increased housing density in forested areas and decreased parcel sizes can be associated with, among other things, alterations in forest structure and function,long-term modifications to and reductions in water quality and aquatic diversity, increases in fire risk, and greater loss of life and property.
