In spite of the disgracefully long delay in publishing this collection of ten papers on the British Marc project, it remains an important contribution to the literature on the development of library mechanisation in Britain. Much of the material presented here has not been outdated during the past twenty months: it still provides a valuable introduction to this subject. One might wish either that we could have had this volume sooner, or that, being published now, it could have included more recent developments in Dublin, Birmingham, Aldermaston, Southampton, etc.
